UNI 9175
Fire reaction tests for classifying upholstered furniture are carried out in accordance with standard UNI 9175. Thus test samples of rubber and fabric in a specific format and thickness are placed on a metal frame (test chair) made up of two sides at right-angles to one another to simulate the seat of a chair that is moved to a precise distance from a gas burner set to give a constant flame. The combustion test requires various separate test items: the outcome is considered positive if combustion ceases within 120 seconds. The different items undergo three tests each with a different length of flame application (20 sec., 80 sec. and 140 sec.) and flame distance from the upholstery. The highest class, class 1/IM, is registered once the three tests have been completed.
